We come across many web sites, often online shops, that use the wrong web host / provider for their services. Truly a shame, since many weeks or even months of hard work wasted by the fact that the host simply makes their sites invisible for search engines! Whatever you do, do not use the following: Links to web sites that use hidden links 1. Use free or low-cost web hosts. (geocities, freeserver etc) 2. Intro pages that block access to the main site 3. Flash introductions that block access to the main site 4. Too many JavaScript`s making the site unreadable for search engines 5. JavaScript menu's making the site unreadable for search engines links to product pages that cannot be seen / indexed by search engines 6. Using re-directs that can not be followed by search engines ^top^ |
3. Incorrect use of Frames

Many people reject frames. We have seen many (very) good web sites though that use frames. It is possible to have a great page rank, but it will cost you a LOT more effort than using plain non-framed htm pages. When using frames, make sure you do the following: 1. You will have to provide search engines with a description what the frames are about. 2. You will have to prevent search engines from indexing a page that was supposed to be part of a framed site. (For example your navigation menu) 3. When linking to a page on your site, link to the framed site as a whole, not just to the frame itself. 4. Make good use of meta tags and the [noframes] tags to tell search engines what the frameset is about. ^top^ |

Once, we had a client asking for a solution to his low visitor-amount. When opening his page, a site about art-works, it turned out that the main page was over 2 mega bytes of data. A modem user would have to wait about 5 minutes for this page to load. Reduce your loading time, or your visitors will simply leave before your site is loaded. Whatever you do, do not use the following: 1. Images with a total size bigger than 40kb. 2. More than 15 images on 1 page 3. Images without indicating the width and height. 4. Images without using an ALT tag to tell search engines what it is about. 5. Ideally each image should be less than 1160 bytes, to easily fit into one TCP-IP packet. 6. Using images where you could have used plain text 7. Having a loading time longer than 15 seconds using a 56k modem (±60kb total) In order to reduce the loading time of your pages, we have tools in our optimize section that will reduce the loading time of your images. ^top^
